In this, the first of my podcast appearances, I talk with Ben Sixsmith of The Critic Magazine about my “running with cancel culture” whilst at the University of Cambridge.
I give an anatomical sketch of a ‘cancellation’, including the tactics used by protesters to prevents audiences from attending events being picketed, and the false slurs used to justify their attacks on speakers.
Ben and I then ponder declining birth-rates and why it is that the ‘taboo’ surrounding the topic it is pervasive enough to have the people wishing to stage a debate run off campus.
I give an account of the ‘decolonisation’ movement within academia in light of Doug Stoke’s latest book, Against Decolonisation, and explain — from the perspective of a recent graduate — why students feel disenfranchised and hopeless about their future.
